In a roller-coaster Premier League encounter on Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United played out a dramatic 2–2 draw that kept United’s unbeaten league run alive, while prolonging Spurs’ wait for a home win this season.
United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo’s 32nd-minute header but Spurs responded after a lively second half. Substitute Mathys Tel levelled in the 84th minute with a low finish on the turn after a penetrating move. Just minutes later, the home side thought they had grabbed all three points when Richarlison flicked in a header in injury time. However, United weren’t done: defender Matthijs de Ligt rose at the back-post in the sixth minute of stoppage time to nod home a corner and salvage a draw for the visitors.
Spurs bossed substantial possession and looked set to capitalise at home, but United’s resilience and ability to strike late prevented a home defeat. Post-match, de Ligt said: “We fought until the end – that is Manchester United’s character.” Spurs manager reflected on missed opportunity: “We created enough, but defending the lead still has to improve.”
For United, the point moves them up the table and extends psychological momentum. For Spurs, the result raises questions — they have now failed to win at home in the league since the opening weekend.
